The Flying Cow Cabin(can only be rented for 30 days or more)sits on its own 3 acres as part of a larger 20-acre meadow with 3 other residences.(1-Full Time and 2-Part Time). Once this field was all "open range" to both deer and cows and when the roofing material was dropped off for construction some of these free-ranging cows left hoof prints on what was to become the interior ceiling. It seemed as if they had flown up there and walked around...hence the name. Of course, their skywriting signatures have long since been sanded off and triple-varnished until only a beautiful, knotty-pine finish remains.
The Flying Cow is a small and cozy craftsman cabin of about 750 sq. ft. with an additional 150 sq. ft. loft. There are large picture windows with views of Goat Wall and the surrounding mountains which make up the Upper Lost River Valley, as well as spacious front deck; and rear deck with picnic table and Weber Bar-B-Q. Burn-Ban permitting, there is a rock campfire pit in the front yard
The kitchen is complete with granite countertops and modern appliances; as well as a stacked washer/dryer in the bedroom. The bathroom's large walk-in shower is a painstakingly hand made broken tile mosaic and is supplied with on-demand hot water.
The high ceiling in the living room keeps it cool in the hot summer months when you have finished hiking or mountain biking. And the attractive, free-standing gas heater provides cozy winter evenings after a cold day of cross-country skiing.
Outside, there are 220-volt, water, and sewer hook-ups for your mother-in-law's RV. The private driveway is plowed in winter.
This get-a-way is meant for getting away, as opposed to staying in touch. So there is no TV or internet reception. However, Verizon Wireless does receive 2 bars if you need to stay in cell phone contact.
The cabin is approximately 5.5 miles 'upstream' from Mazama, and at $2550 a month it represents a wonderful, year-round vacation opportunity.
